August 7, 2018
On Saturday August 4th, we celebrated Barack Obama's birthday, the president of the Unite States from January 20th, 2009 to January 20th, 2017. Obama, a dedicated politician and loving family man, won the hearts of millions during his two consecutive presidency reigns. Some of his greatest accomplishments include signing the Affordable Care Act in 2010, ordering all U.S. military forces out of Iraq in 2011 to end the war, and to increase support for veterans.
In 2016, major changes were proposed for the hearing aid industry – to have accessible over-the-counter hearing devices. In his weekly public address on December 17th, Obama stated“this month, the FDA started taking steps to make hearing aids more affordable for more than the nearly 30 million Americans suffering from the frustration of hearing loss. We think people with moderate hearing loss should be able to buy a hearing aid over the counter as easily as you can buy reading glasses at your local pharmacy.” This comment signified the importance of providing easily obtainable, non-prescription hearing devices for those with mild to moderate hearing loss.
The Over-the-Counter Hearing Aid Act was signed into law on August 18th2017 by President Trump during his first year of presidency.
We at Hearing Amplifier are very appreciative of the US presidents’ support for causes such as hearing loss. In the future, we hope other countries continue to make hearing amplifiers more affordable and accessible for those who need them the most.
Once again, happy birthday Barack Obama!
